London Borough of Culture 2025

The council has launched its bid to become London Borough of Culture 2025, and is inviting you to get involved.

The Mayor’s London Borough of Culture award was launched in 2017. Every other year, the winning council receives funding and support to create a cultural and creative programme.

Ealing has produced an ambitious bid outlining how the borough would use its year to innovate, transform and promote arts, music and culture across its 7 towns and create a lasting legacy for the borough.

Councillor Peter Mason, leader of Ealing Council, said: “Culture, arts and creativity mean different things to different people. But they are also the things that bring us together. The stories we all tell through art and cultural activities create better understanding and help to build stronger communities.”

To be part of it, go to register your support and share your ideas for what you would like to get to see or experience if Ealing is crowned London Borough of Culture 2025.

At the heart of the bid is the council’s view that all of us are creative, and that every single one of Ealing’s 367,100 residents has something to offer. The council’s cultural manifesto, created with the input of thousands of local people and organisations, lays out the council’s ambitions to support, foster and develop more cultural and artistic outlets and opportunities for residents, across all ages and all communities.

The borough has a rich cultural history to back its bid. Ealing Studios is the longest running film studios in the world. The Ealing Blues Club was key to the formation of the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and countless other rock legends. More recently, the borough has become home to the thriving London Mela and British Bhangra scenes.

Councillor Polly Knewstub, cabinet member for thriving communities, said: “The heart of our bid is that we want more; more facilities for people to get involved in the arts; more venues to host shows, gigs and performances; more training for careers in the creative industries and more bringing people together through art and culture. And we want more of you to get involved.”

The Mayor of London’s decision on the winning bid will be announced in April 2024.

Ealing’s bid to be London Borough of Culture 2025 also includes an option to be considered for London Borough of Culture 2027.
