New Commercial Waste Legislation

Don't forget that the new business waste legislation will be implemented from April 1st, requiring businesses to have contracts for recycling, general waste and food.

The UK Government has implemented a new Simpler Recycling regulations and is requiring businesses to separate plastic, paper and card, glass, metals (cans, tins and foil)* and food waste from their general waste

All businesses must provide evidence via Waste Transfer Notes of how they dispose of food (even if it's just apple cores and tea bags), paper & card and recyclable products.

A general waste bag for everything will no longer be legally compliant. The Wrap England website gives good guidance for the different sectors. You can find official Government legislation here.

Ealing’s Council Transport Strategy

Ealing Council is currently developing its Transport Strategy (2025-2041), due to be published in summer 2025.

The council’s ambition for the future of transport is for walking, wheeling, cycling and public transport to be the natural choices for everyday short journeys in the borough. This will reduce congestion, improve air quality, and make journeys easier for those who need to drive or be driven.

The strategy will be an engaging and accessible document explaining this ambition, the case for change, the priorities for each of the seven towns, and a set of principles for delivering transport in the future.

Building on the Charter, we are now undertaking an eight-week programme of in-depth engagement with residents and stakeholders, not about the draft strategy, but on the broader topics of how they get around, any issues or obstacles they experience, and their views and insights for making improvements. We will be working with Project Centre to run a range of interactive workshops, drop-in events and other sessions throughout February and March, to ensure the voices of our residents and stakeholders are captured, and the strategy meets the needs of all who live and work in the borough.

All information and the survey is available on Commonplace, which will also be linked from the council website.
