Lane Rental Scheme

Ealing Council has launched a public consultation on a new lane rental scheme aimed at reducing traffic congestion. Following a recent London-wide strategy by TfL, the proposal would allow the council to charge utility companies a daily fee for occupying the borough’s busiest roads during works.

Key Goals of the Scheme

Reduce Congestion: Financial incentives encourage companies to work outside peak hours.

Faster Repairs: Charges promote quicker completion times and better coordination between different utility providers.

Greener Travel: Supporting the Mayor of London’s goals for improved air quality and more reliable public transport.

Following the close of Ealing’s consultation in February, the council will publish a report and seek final approval from the Department for Transport before any scheme can be introduced.
